Combat:

The verbs you use to fight are the same as they have always been. To attack a creature or (heaven help you) another player, you type in "kill bob", just as you've always done. However, what follows will be slightly different...

-----------------A new round (1) begins. HP: 33 Sub: 0 Ess: 24-----------------
Bob swings his longsword in a deadly arch toward you.
You receive a minor wound in the right foot.
You swing your dagger at Bob.
Bob receives a minor wound in the left forearm.
-----------------A new round (2) begins. HP: 30 Sub: 0 Ess: 24-----------------

Banners have been turned on for all players, as they now have some combat relevance. If you don't want to see your combat stats, you may turn them off with "@options combat -round_display". However, we suggest leaving them on to track whether or not you should stay in the battle.

You enter combat by queuing an attack or being the target of an attack. Some spells will also initiate combat. Once you are involved in combat, you will take an action every round until the combat ends or you leave combat. If you do not enter a command, your action will consist of a base swing: queuing an attack against someone who has attacked you during the current combat, using the weapon you are currently holding. You may override your base swing for the next round at any time before your action for that round executes, but you may only queue actions for the next round. Thus, if you enter "cast missile at Alice" fifteen times before the next round begins, you will still have to enter it again if you want to cast it a second time the next round, or you'll be back swinging with your fists.

Once you enter combat, you will continue to participate in it until you leave combat or combat ends. There are several ways this might happen: If you leave the room or are knocked unconscious, you are removed from combat. If no person participating in combat enters an action (i.e. all the combatants walk off to go get a Coke® and let their base swings go at it) for three rounds, the combat ends. Be warned: NPC's may queue actions; they do not simply use base swings.

Killing your target requires you to queue an action against it; you will not get a base swing against an unconscious character.
